Color Report: Khaki Green

Sometimes referred to as army or camo, khaki green is in this spring season. You may be thinking to yourself "This color is too utilitarian," or "Who do you people think I am? I don't just wear an old army shirt like that girl from Freaks and Geeks." It's time to throw those thoughts out the window and embrace this color for what it is: a beautiful neutral. Khaki green is a color that can have undertones that range from light olive green to an earthy dark brown. It can be used to add color to your home or wardrobe without overdoing it.

Used on a wall, it can highlight the simple and soft creams of your furnishing. As a couch, it creates an exciting accent piece. And if you're looking for a way to make that old pair of khaki green shorts work again, pair them with a piece of striking gold accent jewelry. Brown leathers are also going to accentuate the subtle beauty of this color.

Meanwhile at Treebird, we have been itching to work this color into a design. The opportunity presented itself in the form of a tour-stop poster for Black Joe Lewis.

We've started incorporating this color not only into our own design, but also in branding for our clients. The Mrs. Dovebelly identity is mainly comprised of pinks and purples, but it intentionally includes a small amount of a color that we refer to as sage.

So even if at first glance your eyes tell you M*A*S*H, give khaki green the benefit of the doubt. Colors, like people, are at their best when you don't write them off.

With a dual focus on creating original branding for new concepts and revitalizing the look and feel of even the most-established brands, Jaci approaches each project with a fresh and thoughtful perspective. While she recognizes the relevance of current trends, she’s hyper-conscious of the fine line that separates “trend” from “fad,” and tends toward more timeless and classic looks for her clients. Through a five-year tenure that saw her quickly ascend to senior designer and then become the company’s first creative director, Jaci worked on design and branding projects with visionaries, entrepreneurs, and business leaders whom she admires greatly and whose own passion elevates her sense of what’s possible through new design, branding, and communication.
