What's in a name?

For starters, the bird predates Portlandia by several years.

It was summer 2008, and we were letter-pressing our wedding invitations when the tree and the bird first went from ink to paper. Our graphic identity was born! It seemed a fit for us: Patrick—introverted, solid, intuitive, expansive. Jaci—extroverted, relational, sensory, bright.  One part given to keeping his feet on the ground, and one part given to her occasional flights of fancy.

The wedding invites grew into our Holiday Trifold Brochure (our answer to the mundane family holiday card) which, after five increasingly complex and wonderfully collaborative iterations, took off into Treebird Branding.

So, we are who we’ve always been. Except older and wiser and hungrier and better at life in general and marketing and branding in particular. And if you want a list of weird company names, we’re not going to provide one. Just think about the first time somebody said the word Microsoft.

Plus, we find the whole root/flight dynamic very interesting. More than just a clever metaphor, it does reflect and reinforce our process, and, well, isn’t that the point?
