Top Social Media & Design Trends 2020

At Treebird, we treat social media as an extension of your brand. Once we’ve created your brand (logo design, positioning, website), we work to execute all aspects of your brand, including managing your social media.

A couple of weeks ago we had our first Treebird Social Summit, a meeting of minds between our design and social media team. From captions and photos to graphics, the content you share is a reflection of your business and should be consistent with your visual branding to build trust.

We were able to cover several topics:

  • Social media today—the current social media landscape, trends, and metrics to care about

  • 2020 graphic design trends—looking ahead and finding sources of inspiration

  • Social media design trends—adapting to stay up-to-date for our clients

We also took this as a chance to review our own content performance and brainstorm for future ideas.

SOCIAL MEDIA TODAY

Social media continues to change on a regular basis, but certain pillars still remain true.

Strategy. Winning Content. Consistency. Engagement.

Figuring out your social media goals and finding a strategy that works for you and your business. Sharing content that resonates with your followers—video, photo, graphics, animations. Being consistent in messaging and with your presence on social media. And the new face of engagement being comments, shares, and saves.

Also don’t overlook the opportunities in Stories to continue your storytelling. Go more in-depth with our analysis on the current state of social here.

2020 Graphic Design Trends

Motion. Monochrome. Shiny metals. Typography. Illustrations. Patterns and geometrics designs.

These are just some of the design trends we’re looking forward to seeing. One of the videos we found inspiring was from Graphic Mama .

Also Shutterstock, our go-to stock site, put out their list of 2020 Creative Trends that we’re swooning over.

Social Media Design Trends

For social media trends and design, we looked to Planoly and another auto-publishing tool Later.

Planoly’s Design Trends: Top 5 Predictions for 2020

In Later’s 10 Graphic Design Trends That Will Be Huge on Instagram in 2020, they name

  • Authentic Imagery (though it’s still important to plan your content in advance, sharing organic, relatable content to showcase your brand)

  • Powder Pigments (think millennial pink and more pastels being used where they haven’t typically)

  • Type Heroes (on-brand graphics and reposts have are definitely on the rise and bold lettering)

Being able to stop and reflect on how trends affect the work we do, in design and social media, is important to us for our collaborative process.

Realizing the connection between your branding and visual identity with social media will help you better represent your business, tell your story, and position you in front of the right audiences.
